Simple Ways to Networking

Networking can be awkward, uncomfortable and intimidating. But it doesn't have to be as hard as most people think! Expanding your networking circle is a great way to get ahead in the the business world. Here are some simple things you can do to help you network your brand, job and skills.

Swap Information

The most well known and simple way of networking is swapping information with someone. This can be business cards, phone numbers, email addresses or even social media accounts. The more people you add to your social network, the larger circle you have.

Always Be Prepared

One of the greatest things about networking is that you it can happen anywhere, at any time! Weather you are out shopping or grabbing coffee with a friend. To be prepared, I always keep some of my business cards in my purse and wallet. On top of having my business cards, I keep some of my close friends and relatives cards for quick information. I am constantly looking to refer the people I know and help them network their businesses.

If you do not have a job that gives you a business cards you can always make up a small stack for yourself, with your personal information. Check out places like Vista Print or Shutterfly to order business cards!

Virtual Networking

Networking does not always have to be a face to face interaction. One of my favorite ways to network is using my LinkedIn account. Liking and commenting on posts that are meaningful to me is a great way to get your name out there. I also found that joining groups that fit your interests, career path and hobbies is an easy way to meet new people.

I found that some of these groups hold networking events where members gather to connect, meet and swap information. If you are not comfortable going to these events alone, find a buddy to tag along with you. The more groups you join and event your attend, the larger your networking circle expands. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new!

Use Social Media

To go along with using virtual networking, don't forget about the positive effects of social media. A simple follow, like or comment on a post can help you make connections.

Be Genuine

When networking, don't forget to be yourself! You are selling yourself and what you know. Be confident, strong and always put your best foot forward. Treat the people you are networking with the way you want to be treated and give them the same respect you expect them to give you.

Reach Out When Needed

Networking is used in two directions. As you hope the connection you make will always keep you in mind when fitting, you should keep them in mind also. This will create a stronger connection and relationships.

When done correctly, networking isn't as scary as many people think! So never be afraid to put yourself out there and share your expertise with the world.
