Deer Impersonation of The Beetles

Last night I was in my first ever car accident. I am thankful that it was my first, that no one was hurt and that my car wasn't totaled. I know others aren't as fortunate as I am but I am here to share my store and new awareness of driving at night.... So here it goes.
I was driving down the highway (Interstate 287, if your from NJ you will know that this is a 3-4 lane highway). It was 12:30am and I was driving home from my boyfriend's house. There were no cars in front of me and only 1 car behind me. I could see his headlights in my rear-view mirror.
Going around a bend in the highway I came across 3 deer in the middle of the road. They were standing like the Beetles, each deer taking up its own line of this 3-line highway.
In that moment, I had 3 options:
1. Try to swerve off the highway while avoiding the tree filled median.
2. Slam on my breaks and hope the car, whose headlights were in my rear view mirror, does not hit me.
3. Do my best do drive in between the deer and avoid hitting them.
Well... I chose my 3rd option. I ended up hitting 2 of the 3 deer and making a mess of my car. I was alone, startled and most of all SCARED. I didn't know what to do in the situation. Do I call the cops? Do I call my parents? Do I try to get off the highway? Do I just pull into the shoulder?
I ended up pulling to the shoulder of the highway and called my parents. They were thankful I was OK and they came to help me out. We had to call the cops and then a tow truck (seeing as my car was smoking). My mom called the insurance company and everyone was very helpful.
The moral of this adult moment is that it can happen to anyone. As long as you are staying focused on the road and not driving in any harmful situation, it's OK.
